WTF Clipse...
Courtesy: Bas Jan Ader
This perfectly describes my relationship with the Clipse as of this point. I'm Good and Kind of Like a Big Deal were more than disappointing, but hey, after two albums that were less than what Pusha and Malice hoped in terms of success, why not throw in some tracks that will get them radio play and fat stacks? They are on a supportive major now, and one needs to make concessions. And with that, comes the chance to work with Rick Rubin. I mean, JESUS, what could possibly go wrong with this collaboration:
Now, this:
The bass squelches like a 7 year old with his hand in his armpit in an early attempt at juvenile humor. Pusha T's and Malice's flows are flat and uninspiring. Rock City is just strange. What happened to the stark, you-will-have-to-pry-this-brick-from-my-cold-dead-hands, fuck you attitude we had grown to love? I suppose the hunger and anger that was so apparent in Hell Hath No Fury and Lord Willin' disappears as soon as one is fed and happy. It's a shame, but fame works that way I suppose.
Correction: This track will not be on Till the Casket Drops, but will be on an upcoming release from the producers The Synth. Proof why blogs suck, its one big clusterfuck to get the first word in and you end up getting it wrong.
Mayer Hawthorne
The new Mayer Hawthorne album is dope. It officially drops October 6th. Stones Throw, having become perhaps the premier indie hip hop label in recent years with The Unseen, Madvillainy, and Donuts, is on a roll ladies and gentlemen. The James Pants drop had me scratching my head, but the Dam Funk EP, and now this? Please keep it coming PBW.
Watch for the Dam Funk cameo.
He also did a cover of the Weeds theme song.

New Zomby EP! Sick Bro!
XLR8R posted the tracklist for the the new Zomby EP set to drop August 24th. Where Were You in '92? was huge, and the 12" he has put out since then (Strange Fruit, Spliff Dub) have been ridiculous. Seeing that headline this morning made my day. Seriously. Here is a video and a snippet of a new track off "One Foot Ahead of the Other".

The Gaslamp Killer - My Troubled Mind
The Gaslamp Killer - My Troubled Mind
Brainfeeder has done it again. "My Troubled Mind", the new EP from the Gaslamp Killer is an intensely psychedelic trip. GLK incorporates acid rock samples, 8 bit stab synths, Eastern drum breaks, and some genuine creative know-how to craft this great release. The beats are all fantastic, and in all honesty, unlike anything else being released right now. GLK has been killing the DJ scene in LA for a quick minute, running with Flying Lotus and the Brainfeeder crew, and routinely destroying Low End Theory. This clip from his Sonar set makes me wish there was a recording of it floating around somewhere on the interwebs.
Long story short, check the drop, f'realz. You'll thank me later
PS: If you like it, check his "Hell and the Lake of Fire are Waiting for You" Mix and the "I spit on your grave" mix
